Discover how good radio can sound

  • HD Radio is a Digital technology that allows a radio station to transmit more information in the same radio wave, enabling higher quality sound and additional content. HD Radio technology makes AM Stations have FM Station-like sound quality, while FM Stations are broadcast with CD-like sound quality.

  • Unlike typical FM or AM transmission, HD Radio has crystal clear reception with low noise and no audio distortion.

More content, more listening options with Multicasting

  • Multicasting allows more channels to be accessed from your radio dial. HD Radio multicast channels can be listened to only by an HD Radio enabled stereo such as the KD-HDR50. These "Stations In Between the Stations" contain additional format options, music genre and talk radio options, and even experimental formats that have, until now, never been heard through other radio broadcast mediums.

  • HD Radio broadcasting is completely free of charge--there are no monthly plans or subscription costs for this unique and exciting content.

  • National coverage areas--HD Radio content is currently available in close to 200 major markets currently and rapidly expanding. For more information or to find HD Radio stations near you, log on to mobile.jvc.com or www.hdradio.com.

iTunes Tagging
iTunes Tagging allows users to store or "tag" information about that song they are hearing on HD Radio and store it in their receiver. The tagged song information will transfer to their iPod/iPhone and be recalled in iTunes allowing them the option to purchase that song from the iTunes store. How it works:

  1. When you hear a song you like on the radio, press the "TAG" key to save the information on the headunit.
  2. Information is transferred to your iPod when you connect to the headunit.
  3. Information is transferred to iTunes when you sync your iPod to your computer.
  4. The song shows up on the "Tagged" playlist in iTunes.
  5. Click on the button to purchase the song from the iTunes Store.
  6. Enjoy the music!

Conventional Radio
Of course, sometimes you'll want to tune into non-HD content, so you can also dial in standard AM/FM stations. Tune into your favorite stations instantly with 18 FM and 6 AM presets (all of which can be used for HD stations if you choose).

CDs and More
The KD-HDR50 also features a CD player, which will play your favorite CDs and CD-R/RWs.

What's more, you can burn an MP3 or WMA disc and enjoy hours of audio complete with ID3 tagging for displaying track information.

USB Port
Stream MP3/WMA files from USB thumb drives and other devices via the included USB port.

iPod Connectivity
You can also operate your iPod via the USB port. Control your iPod/iPhone from either the player itself or from the receiver's controls, while allowing song and artist information display, play, pause, skip, or back commands from either device.

Input and Output
Two pairs of preamp outputs are provided for system expansion if you want to add a little more power to the KD-HDR50's onboard 50W x 4 amplifier.

A 3.5mm front panel auxiliary input is also included for use with iPods, MP3 players, or other external audio devices.

Room to Grow
The KD-HDR50's is a great system, but there's room to expand your options. Add JVC modules for Bluetooth, CD changers or SAT Radio to take your system to the next level.

Wireless Remote
A full-featured wireless remote is include for controlling receiver functions.

What's in the Box
JVC KD-HDR50 Receiver, trim ring, sleeve, remote control, wiring harness, installation hardware, installation manual, instructions

3 out of 5 stars Its Alright.   August 24, 2010
ChiCho (NJ United States)
The radio has great features.. HD Radio, CD, USB,.. I got used to not having preset buttons for the radio... The thing that really bugged me on this radio..(and maybe its just me).. is that I could find no way to adjust the screen's contrast. So unless Im looking at the radio dead on center.. its very washed out and almost impossible to read during daylight.. the buttons also feel a little cheap and plastic.. After about a year of having this radio.. It stopped working too.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent, fanciest car radio ever owned   July 11, 2010
Dennis R. Bell (SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA, US)
JVC KD-HDR50 30K Color-Illumination Single-DIN HD Radio CD Receiver with Remote Control USB 2.0 for iPod/iPhone is an outstanding deal, especially if you get it from an associated dealer (Sixth Avenue Elecronics, see the site, 6ave.com, on the web) as I did. I got mine for only 122 bucks, free shipping, outstanding deal! and it works perfectly, flawlessly -- it is "bluetooth capable" and has an "mini-remote" to control it wirelessly from a distance; it plays HD stations as well as conventional AM/FM stations; it also plays Music CDs and interfaces with both the "Apple iPod" and "Microsoft Windows Style" .mp3 Players, to play Their Music as well! So whether you're an "Apple/MAC" user or a "Microsoft Windows PC" user like me, you're covered!, by this excellent car radio product! And if I CAN install it in MY old Ford Ranger Truck, then YOU CAN install it virtually anywhere, in your car or truck; and if you have any issues or problems with installation, there are Abundant local "Audio Shops" where you live which can assist you, as I did take mine to "All Pro Audio" here in Santa Clara, CA a few blocks from where I live, for easy installation assistance. :-)

4 out of 5 stars Good features for the price. Unintuitive interface.   July 3, 2010
Tim
I got this radio because it had all the features I wanted at the best price. As far as that goes, it delivers. The iPod connectivity and HD radio have been great upgrades, and it has worked as expected. The ability to change the color of the lights has been unexpectedly fun.

Where this radio lacks is its interface. If you don't read the manual, you will not know how to work it. After being used to a line of buttons for preprogramed stations my entire life, most radios seem to be eliminating that feature these days. I don't get it. They were always the most used buttons on my radio. On this unit, instead of pushing one button to change the channel you have to push menu, turn the dial, and then push the dial. It's a three step process that a new passenger would never guess. To me "menu" implies going into your set of options. It shouldn't have anything to do with changing the channel. The power button is labeled (power symbol)/ATT. Who in the world know what "ATT" stands for? Well, I learned that "ATT" stands for "attenuate." I learned a new word. You shouldn't have to be expanding your vocabulary to use a simple radio. Another feature I access quite a bit is changing the control of the iPod from the head unit to the iPod itself. To do that you push and hold the "back" button. It's easy enough, but it doesn't make a lick of sense to me. This is all while the most prominent button on the unit is the "Tag" button which is one of the least used buttons. Tagging doesn't work with all stations, and I don't tend to buy a lot of music anyway. The interface should be completely redesigned so someone could actually use it without reading the manual, but in the end it's really not hard to use. Just be prepared to give a rundown to anyone borrowing your car or sitting in the passenger seat.

2 out of 5 stars ok for the price   June 23, 2010

The HD cuts out allot while driving and then will switch automaticly to the analog channel, which gives a delay. My clock has already died and wont reset. I guess you get what you pay for

5 out of 5 stars Best Value   May 10, 2010
C. Socia (MA)
This stereo has it all. It has so many options for a price that is very reasonable. It has excellent design. Looks and sounds more expensive than it actually cost. You could not ask for more. If your in the market for a stereo that has all the up to date options without breaking your wallet this is the stereo for you.
